Job Summary:

  • Maintains a therapeutic environment:
    • Assesses positive, negative, and/or potentially dangerous mood and behavior change. Takes steps to modify the residents' actions or alerts medical professionals.
    • Emotionally supports residents by remaining calm and professional.
    • Uses interpersonal skills and training about de-escalation to diffuse challenging situations.
    • Serves as a role model for the residents:
      • in work habits (attendance, initiative, appearance, and flexibility)
      • by demonstrating the concept of being a team player in management of resident care e. Maintains strict confidentiality of resident information.
  • Monitors and supervises residents:
    • Effectively communicates to the nursing and clinical director regarding the resident.
    • Monitors and observes residents progress toward their personal goals.
    • Teaches the residents the type of skills required based on their individual plan.
    • Assists with new admissions:
      • checks personal belongings
      • conducts room searches when indicated after informing the nurse, and while maintaining the resident's rights.
    • Assists residents in developing their plans, goals, and objectives and following through with them.
    • Reports any unusual resident behavior to mental health professionals.
    • Maintains safety for residents and self.
    • Helps with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, and grooming.
    • Supervises the cleaning of rooms.
    • Launders/instructs the laundering of clothes.
  • Documentation:
    • Records resident observations and document all activity in an appropriate manner.
    • Assists with implementation and intervention of treatment plans and documentation.
    • Monitors resident progress toward their personal goals.
    • Charts on assigned residents according to policy and procedure. Reports to the nurse any significant information regarding the shift and activities.
  • Participates in and leads groups and unit activities:
    • Plans and executes activities with assigned residents during non-scheduled times and coordinates activities with Recreation Therapy staff.
    • Plans a creative activity to be implemented in a group setting (up to 5 residents) applicable to outcomes identified on treatment plans of residents (3-4 times per week).
    • Assists in therapeutic activities.
    • Facilitates activities, including recreational therapy, designed to teach daily living skills and enhance residents' social skills.
  • Staff Development, Training, and other related requirements:
    • Maintains annual training (includes infection control and SCM) and follows the infection control policies by maintaining annual TB skin test.
    • Maintains awareness of the policies related to the prevention and transmission of infection control (hand washing) and the utilization of personal protective equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings (a minimum of 8 per year) and assists with the training of new staff.
  • Models the mission and values of RiverValley Behavioral Health.
  • Fosters collaborative working relationships among members of the leadership and management teams and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or AA degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related field (including but not exhaustive of: social work, sociology, human services, human development, developmental disabilities, education, special education, recreation therapy, etc)
  • Possesses RBT certification
  • One (1) year experience serving individuals diagnosed with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other emotional and/or behavioral disorders.
